Why can't they be standalones? Like maybe 20 came before 19.

Because that would be bad writing for a series that has always somewhat been serialized.

The books could be standalones, but even standalone book series and TV series need a continuity within all the books.  You couldn't have one book say that one character is 18 years old, and then in the next book mention that it had been five years since the previous adventure, but the character is now 16 years old.

Or if you watch the Christopher Reeves Superman movies and then watch Bryan Singer's Superman Returns, there is a major lack of continuity in that movie which is suppose to be a sequel to Superman 2.  If you look at the newsroom in Superman 2 you'll notice that there is one very seventiesh CRT Television up on a post.  But then in Superman Returns, which "supposedly" takes place 5 years later, there are 50" flat screen Plasma TV's?  Not exactly keeping in continuity with the previous films.

It is just like in the Hardy Boys Undercover Brothers series. During the first 4 books it is mentioned that the Hardy's get to keep their mission discs since the top-secret content has been deleted and the disc is now a music CD or music DVD.  But then, in volume 5 ATAC decides to "recycle" the discs because they still contain the top-secret video.  But then in Volume 6 it is mentioned that the Hardy's keep the disc since it is a regular CD after the top-secret stuff has been played.  And it keeps flip-flopping through-out the rest of the series, and even then there are some books where the author tries to say that the Hardys keep the disc for a time but then send it back to recycle, and immediately in the next book it goes back to where the Hardys get to keep the disc or send it right back to ATAC.

Also, there is no mention of the Hardys having to send the ATAC gadgets back that they get every mission, but then in every book they are surprised by different ATAC gadgets and yet a lot of the gadgets are simple repeats of other gadgets that the Hardy's already received.  Like, how many times do the Hardy's need to get a new lock-picking set?  Sure it may look like a credit card or coin, but still its a lock-picking set, or a data retrieval device.

VHS, S-VHS, Super Betamax, Mini DV, MicroMV, Betacam SP, U-Matic SP - NTSC/PAL/SECAM.  All transferred to DVD!

Do you even know what continuity is?
If he reads the UBs I doubt it.

And yes, I know what continuity is! ::)

People, people, all you need is love...

Actually, I think the fighting should chill. It's one thing to poke fun, it's another to continue to completely insult (even if what you say is in fact, true).

There is a UBs section in this forum too. Everyone's opinion is allowed to be heard in a civil manner. I'm not saying stop debating or stop pointing out what you want, but do it logically and fairly. This whole repetitive cycle is getting tired.

I know I'm guilty of things too, but I've been trying to lighten up.

Agreed, no one's even saying why they like UB or don't like it any more.

Oh yeah, about this UB having more action then Casefiles, JUNK!

The only book that comes close to that is Wanted, and even that has a few chpaters that drag on. The casefiles have explosins, fist fights longer then 3 sentenes, and gun fights.

The UBs, sure Frank and Joe get knocked out sometimes, but the fist fights, are rare and if they do happen, short. And sometimes the bad guys just run away and are caught easily (Feeding Frenzy).

And of course the Casefiles have better bad guys. In the Casefiles, the main bad guys are the Assasians, some of the deadlest criminals ever in a Hardy Boys book. They even blew up Ioa. And they usialy kill themselfs when captured.

On the other hand, UB has WARD. However, they only appear in GNs (witch are way better then the UB Novels), and they are less dangerous then the Assasians. The UB novel bad guys are awful and consit of : 2 teachers, a docter, a 12 year old, and a teenager. (There are more bad guys but I don't remeber them, and they still weren't as good as the casefile bad guys)

So the "UBs Have More Action Then Casefiles" argument is bogus.
