Frank and Joe Hardy are in action again! Death threats made against Martin Pierce bring them and their friend, Chet Morton, to the Big Thicket swamps of southeast Texas. Professor Pierce is trying to protect the swamps against greedy oil and timber interests -- and it's up to the Hardys to protect Professor Pierce!
Filled with everything from rare orchids and trees to poisonous snakes and razorback hogs, the swamps form an almost impenetrable web of winding streams and dead-end basins. When a clue brings the boys into the swamps, two violent strangers lead them on a terrifying chase through the labyrinth of murky waters -- to an encounter with a fifteen-foot killer alligator that has been terrorizing the area!
A series of strange events convince the Hardys that there is more to the trouble at Big Thicket than meets the eye -- and the secret may be more deadly than they bargained for. When the boys take part in the town's annual celebration of a Civil War battle, they begin to see how the pieces of the tricky puzzle fit together. But Frank and Joe must work fast to outsmart a devious man, who could put an end to their lives before they can thwart his cunning plan!
